Nancy Kreis is a student from the State University of New York, University at Albany. She studies within the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity with a minor in Spanish. Looking for a change of scenery, a place to grow personally and professionally, and to explore an unfamiliar culture… Israel is the perfect spot! Nancy is incredibly grateful for this opportunity. The path taken to succeed in life is certainly not straight. It’s curved and occasionally has roadblocks, U-turns, and there will be plenty of surprises. Coming to Israel was undoubtedly the greatest detour I could have imagined. This amazing opportunity presented itself at random and I choose to dive in. I haven’t regretted this choice even once.

As a little girl I always knew that I wanted to help people. Adults would often ask, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer changed a few times throughout the years although each potential job involved helping others and a splash of adrenaline. Being in Israel, I have realized that this experience is beyond my wildest dreams!

As someone who had never traveled abroad before my time in Israel, I was incredibly excited and slightly nervous to begin this adventure. The initial cultural adjustment was very manageable (chiefly just handling jet lag) and I have encountered very few issues thus far. Choosing to study at BGU as an international student has undoubtedly been one of the best choices I have ever made.
