Homesickness is a strange thing. When I was in Israel I missed the U.S., I missed American comfort food, and my pets, and my college. There were so many American things that I craved. But now that I’m home? I miss Israel. I miss the weather, the food, and the people. But I miss the experiences that I had there the most.

College in Israel, and at BGU, is very different than at my college in the U.S. I met people from all over the world and traveled all over Israel. I learned about how diverse Israel is, and that each community is working to make Israel better, because it is their home. While my classes did not specifically focus on politics, it is impossible not to talk about politics in Israel. Political discourse permeates daily life there, and for good reason. Each person in Israel is directly affected by the decisions of the politicians. It was an enlightening experience talking to such an engaged population.

Personally, I had some great experiences in Israel. The field trips with my class and the OSP are some of the best memories I have of my semester. I learned a lot in my classes, which each approached Israel and Israeli culture from different angels. And I made some friends along the way. After living there for a semester, Israel really does feel like my second home. I look forward to going back sometime in the future.
